Ideas ZAP into my head.
Charles E. Butler is an actor, writer and self taught artist in West Yorkshire. When not performing on a stage or posting his illustrations on the internet he finds time to share his philosophy with people like me.
Charles E. Butler: "Ideas for drawings generally just zap into my head and are then moulded and kneaded when time allows. I use very basic materials: pencil, ballpoints and marker pens. Try colour sometimes to give photographic effect, but I just draw what I like.
Hate deadlines, that is why I self-publish! The cash can be nice, but not very important.
I learned through just giving it a go. In my time I have written short stories and scripts for various theatre groups that I'm involved with. My books came about after I read a book regarding the history of Hammer films and there was more fiction in it than the films themselves!
I like the fact that people take time out to look at my work and appreciate it. I have read many stories of my own heroes where they sit in a sweatbox with a tyrannical editor cracking the obligatory whip! Not cool!
I just enjoy being creative, be it on stage, in a book or drawing. I miss some opportunities due to far-reaching timetables, but if I can write, draw or act, it will triumph every time."
Charles E. Butler says that his next book will review the Universal and Hammer Frankenstein movies. In the meantime, he says, he will continue his acting work in murder mysteries where, he assures me, he dies well. Though everyone always suspects the butler.
